Review: A Lush Betrayal

A Lush Betrayal (Lush, #1)A Lush Betrayal by Selena Laurence
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A copy of A Lush Betrayal was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Betrayal. It's the most heart wrenching word in the English language. The consequences of living with betrayal are physical, mental and emotional. Like acid eats through stone, the guilt of living with his betrayal is slowly destroying Joss Jamison's life. Just when he begins to think that despair is going to overtake his life Joss meets Melanie DiLorenzo, and it's like the sun has broken through the clouds after a rainy day. Never before has Joss felt such a deep emotional connection to a woman, and by some miracle, Melanie seems to be falling just as deeply in love with Joss as he is with her. But heaven can not be fully captured on earth, and the fear of his sins being discovered continue to cast a shadow, no matter how deeply Joss tries to bury the memory, some things can never be forgotten.

A Lush Betrayal is the story of Joss Jamison, lead singer of Lush, the hottest rock and roll band to hit the music scene since Pearl Jam changed the face of rock and roll to become the most popular American band of the '90s.

Supremely well written and expertly edited, the cast of characters includes fellow band members Mike, Colin and Walsh. The four men have been together since forming the band in high school. More like brothers than friends, their complex relationships with each other add a deeper layer of emotional turmoil to a story that is already guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Tammy DiLorenzo, older sister to Mel and Walsh's high school sweetheart, is the glue that hold the four band members together while on tour.

Dave Keller, the manager that has been with them since the Lush's early days, is helpless to do anything other than watch the band and it's members slowly begin to fall apart. As Joss's betrayal, which is not as secret as he originally believed, begins to eat away at them all.

A Lush Betrayal is more than the story of a rock and roll band and their turbulent rise to fame. It's more than the story of a perfect love growing between two flawed beings. What this story is about is human nature. It draws readers down to the deepest depths of despair, allows us to ride along on the tail of a shooting star, and showcases the strength of will and spirit of hope that enables even the most damaged of souls to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of life's greatest failures.

This is a must-read work of pure heart that dares to go beyond boy-meets-girl and tackle life is really about. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
