My Partner the Wolf
by Hollis Shiloh
Genre: M/M Paranormal Romance
Standalone novel - Length: 78,000 words
Chemistry off the charts—but is that enough?
Tom Langley and Sean Goods work together in a human-and-wolf shifter partnership, assisting the police, rushing in to solve crimes wherever their bosses send them. They're a great team, and they have fun together, too: joking and enjoying each other's company in a way that doesn't happen every day.
Tom is also a married man. And his husband hates the wolf shifter with a passion. Tom tries to balance the sides of his life—one minute on a high-pressure chase with Sean, the next placating his husband Lowell.
Then the unthinkable happens: his marriage ends. Heartbroken, he's not expecting to ever get over Lowell's betrayal or to be able to love again.
Sean offers a solution: sex as friends. They have chemistry, and they trust each other.
But can they change their partnership that much? And is Sean secretly harboring feelings for him—expecting more than just sex?
Sean is a loveable, funny, strong, and protective. He's the best buddy a guy could have. But Tom might not be able to keep from breaking his heart—if Sean is in love with him, and Tom can't love him back.
Sexiness level: Medium/High
Anyone who knows anything about me recognizes that when Hollis Shiloh releases a new book I'll drop almost anything to crack it open. Let me tell you; I've already started this one, and so far, it's one of Shiloh's best EVER!!!! Not that it will be able to take the place of Jude's Magic, Through the Window, or Fireproof in my heart... or... *laughing* who am I kidding??? They are ALL the best ever. Just trust me, this one is really, and I mean REALLY good.
"Oh god." He pressed a fist against his forehead, grimacing. "Please don't give me the breaking-up speech when we haven't even dated. It was one blow job, seriously."
"Yeah, but if you have feelings for me...?" It came out almost like a question.
He turned to stare at me, something like disbelief in his gaze. "How can I not? You're amazing and... available." His cheeks were hot, hot enough to show a blush under his dark skin tone.
I reached out and squeezed his shoulder, almost like a massage. "You've been here for me so much, but it's not... I don't know how to feel about this. Like, were you feeling this way all along? Did Lo have a right to be jealous of all the time we spent together?"
He looked away, frowning "I... I never did anything inappropriate. It's not like I'm lusting after you all the time or stealing your dirty underwear or something."
I snorted out a laugh.
"Yeah, ha ha," he echoed. "But c'mon, you're available now, and I think the world of you, and you wouldn't even consider dating me-- it wouldn't even cross your mind? That kind of hurts." He took a slow sip of coffee and eyed me over the rim. "Is it because I'm a wolf?"
"No." I shook my head, trying to think, my brow furrowing. "You've been off limits for so long. And... you're my partner, my friend. I can be myself with you. I don't want to lose that. I don't want... I don't know, secrets and pain, or games, or just to lose what we have. It's so good, you know? And I also don't want to hurt you. I'm still pretty much a mess." I reached over and thumped him lightly on the upper arm with my knuckles. "You know. You've hauled my ass around enough and made me eat. Seriously, the thrill should be gone for you, buddy.
His face cleared as I spoke, and he looked relieved, his dark eyes filled with hope, his whole face smiling softly. "Hey. I don't want any of that stuff either. I think we'd be good together without drama, without the whole dating ordea. In fact, I think this would be really good for you. Just let me take care of you in bed. Still friends, just with sex too."
I looked at him, gaping. "That would be enough for you? I don't want to, like, take advantage of you. I know how loyal you are, but it doesn't seem quite fair..."
"No." He nodded. "It does. Think about it. You're not ready for a relationship, I want to be with you, but it's complicated, and... why not? Let's try sex."
