Loving his best friend's sister goes against every code he knows, but one kiss is all it takes.

Ryan Flynn’s life and career with the Ice Dragons hockey team is defined by a code: friendship, loyalty, respect, leadership, and protection. A call from his best friend’s sister ends up with him taking her home, and it’s all he can do to remember that she’s off limits. It doesn’t matter that she’s too much of a temptation for a man on the edge, he’s promised her brother he wouldn’t let any guy in professional sports anywhere near her, and that includes him.

Kat has been in lust with hockey player Ryan Flynn since she first laid eyes on him. The problem? Ryan is her brother’s best friend, bound by a complicated code of chivalry both on and off the ice. When he rescues her and then takes her home, she just needs a single kiss—and he is more than happy to help her out. When the kiss is just the start of something they need to hide from her brother, abruptly things are out of control.

Could Ryan, the hard man of the Dragons, see her as anything more than his best friend’s sister? And will Kat be able to catch and keep this Dragon who is the other half of her?
How did I choose the team I wanted to follow?

I would love to be able to write that I looked at statistics, scores, team rivalries, and all the other things that would make my decision based on sensible reasons.

I didn’t.

With a convincingly shallow decision I looked through a blog post on the thirty hottest hockey players, and chose based on that. It was a close run thing until I realized that I kept coming back to two players, Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby.

Well, I had at least heard of Sidney Crosby!

And after more research I realized there are a hell of a lot of sexy hockey players. Yes, like I said… shallow!

So, having decided that the Pittsburgh Penguins would be my team, I started to research, and realized that this team were in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or what I liked to call at the time, The Final (LOL).

Not only were they in the *finals* they were beating other teams, and won the cup.

I think I chose the right team (ducks projectiles from fans of other teams!).

Choosing the team was just step one in becoming a hockey fan.

Then I went on to reading everything I could about the team, the players, the history, the stats (which pleased my analytical brain!), and the hockey year.

Are you a hockey fan? Do you have a *team* in hockey or any other sport? How did you choose the team?

4 of 5 stars
I live in Minnesota, where we bleed hockey. I'm an avid Wild fan and have an ice rink in my barn, so hockey does it for me... and so does The Code. It's the perfect blend of sports and romance, the characters are authentic, and the story is both tough and tender. I loved Ryan, with his rough and tumble outside and sweet center. Kat's relationship with her brother, Ryan's best friend, is complex and influences her life choices for far too long, but once she comes out of her shell she does it in a big way. Four stars to RJ for drawing me in, making me fall in love with her characters, and keeping me rooting for the home team.
