A quick chat with Skye Jones about what led her to write Wolves at the Door, and to pen a m/f story after releasing her menage Claimed by Love.
"Thanks so much for having me, Carly. I wanted to write a shorter length story, a novella. I tend to write fairly long, and I wanted to explore having to wrap up a story in a certain number of words. So I set myself a 20k absolute max. I'd already decided I wanted to write about a particular area in Scotland. There are a couple of regions in Scotland that are often referred to as Europe's last great wilderness areas. One is so remote that to reach the town at the end of the peninsula takes a two day hike or a ferry journey - as there are no roads. This intrigued me. To find there was this great wilderness on my own doorstep. Britain is such a crowded place in many ways that I never thought of it having these vast areas of untouched nature. Then I read a story about the possible re-introduction of wolves to Scotland and that was it! My mind was all 'wouldn't this wilderness be a great place for shifters to hide out?'
So I had this idea burning away, and I wanted to write something short for it. At first I knew all about the shifters, where they lived etc, and had my hero fairly well imagined. But I had no idea who would be the person who found them - except I wanted them to be human, as I wanted it to have a sort of grown-up fairy tale feel to it in some ways. The more I thought of this the more I thought about Little Red Riding Hood, and the tales about the dangers lurking in the woods and not straying from the path we are taught as children. And I woke up one night and I knew that the other person in my story - the person who would meet the hero - would be a human woman with long red hair. She just kind of popped into my head. I am totally led by my characters and they often just appear to me, almost fully formed in a way. Then I have to go and actually make them more 'real' by doing character sheets etc.
Once it was written, I got the amazing opportunity to be in this box set, with so many awesome writers, and it has been so much fun!"

Four of the authors share a fun fact about themselves!
Ellis Leigh: "I have an obsession with reality lifestyle TV. Oil workers, truck drivers, pawn shop owners, Alaskan real estate buyers. If it's something I've never done, I need to watch it! You can thank the Discovery show BikerLive for all the motorcycle details of my Feral Breed series."
Skye Jones: "I own far too many werid and wonderful handbags from thrift stores. Some are really vintage. I can't bear to give any up, and I can't stop buying new ones. I'm running out of room!"
Lisa Carlisle: "I back packed alone around Europe, before living and working at a youth hostel in Paris."
Solease M. Barner: "I'm a big huge Twilight fan and still watch the movies over and over again. In fact I call Edward my other husband lol .. Not Robert Pattinson, but Edward is my love!"
Michele Bardsley: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Michele Bardsley writes about Oklahoma vampires, small-town romance, sexy alpha shifters, and smokin' hot heroes. She lives in Texas with her Viking and their fur babies. Website
Reneé George: I’m a wreck most the time. What more do you need to know? LOL. I love to cook, long walks on the beach, alone time, together time, my hubby, my kiddle, and reading (reading is so much fun! lol). Oh, and how can I forget — I love watching television. Reality TV is just about the best thing since sliced bread. Also, anything sci-fi on tv or at the movies, I’m totally in. Hello! Or funny, yeah, like the funny.
I'm also an author of paranormal fiction, erotic MM, MF, MMF, and MFM. I'm greedy that way. Any thing else you want to know, I’m an open book. So just ask me, I’ll give you all the nitty gritty dirt. Website
Brandy Walker is a paranormal romance author who, on occasion, likes to dabble with contemporary. She’s addicted to MDK shows and who-done-its. You’ll almost never see her without some type of skull paraphernalia on and is always dreaming of more tattoos.
Brandy is a Navy brat, prior enlisted Army, current Army wife, and mom. She lives in Virginia with her husband of 20 years, their three kids and one dog. Website
Sydney Addae: I live in the southeast and enjoy reading and writing all things paranormal. Nothing is more relaxing than cracking open a new adventure in a new world.
I love paranormal tales and characters in general and shifter stories in particular. Throw in the romantic element, strong Alpha characters who bend beneath the power of love and I’m over the moon. Sighs… Website
Lisa Carlisle: USA Today bestselling author Lisa Carlisle loves stories with dark, brooding heroes and independent heroines. She’s honored to be a multi-published author writing in different genres since she’s wanted to be a writer since the sixth grade. For much of her professional career, she’s written non-fiction — but she’s discovered writing romance is the most fun. Her romances have been named Top Picks at Night Owl Reviews and All Romance Ebooks.
When she was younger, she worked in a variety of jobs, moving to various countries. She backpacked alone through Europe, and lived in Paris before returning to the U.S. She owned a bookstore for a few years as she loves to read. She’s now married to a fantastic man, and they have two kids, a cat, and many fish. Website
Julia Mills: Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!
I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked. I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance.
I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS! Website
Ellis Leigh: A storyteller from the time she could talk, Ellis grew up among family legends of hauntings, psychics, and love spanning decades. Those stories didn’t always have the happiest of endings, so they inspired her to write about real life, real love, and the difficulties therein. From farmers to werewolves, store clerks to witches—if there’s love to be found, she’ll write about it. Ellis lives in the Chicago area with her husband, daughters, and a giant dog who hogs the bed. Website
Skye Jones: Lover of sunshine. Hater of spiders. Drinker of wine. Eater of chocolate. Parent of furbabies. Skye Jones is an LGBT erotic romance author who likes to write about that moment when lust and love meet head on. Facebook
Solease M Barner: Solease lives in a quiet area. She is a wife, mother to a daughter, and loves to spend time with her family. She’s been called the social butterfly by many friends, is a huge movie buff, and loves to read books. She writes poetry on a daily basis, as a way to release stress. Website
Cristina Rayne: New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author. I live in West Texas with my crazy cat and about a dozen bookcases full of fantasy worlds and steamy romances. I also have a degree in Computer Science which totally qualifies me to write romances. Fantasy is my first love, and if I can inject a little love into the fantastical, along with a few steamy scenes, then all the better. Blog
